  • Balamuralikrishna was named “Murali Krishnan” by his father. Later, the prefix Bala in his name was given by a Hari Katha performer Musunuri Satyanarayana, after which he was known as Balamuralikrishna.
  • He is said to be the 5th generation descendant of saint-composer Thyagaraja in the guru-shishya parampara. Sri Sri Saint Thyaraja
  • His father was a very popular musician who used to play Flute, and his mother was a renowned Veena player.
  • His mother died when he was just 2 weeks old after which he was raised by his father.
  • Initially his father was against his playing violin. Once he played his instrument in his absence, and when his father saw it, he admitted and played Bhairavi ata thala varnam. After which his father got impressed and allowed him to play his reinstatement.
  • At the age of 9, he started performing at musical concerts, and because of his amazing voice he gained instant fame and recognition, and All India Radio (AIR), Chennai, cast him, a child artist, in their list of A-grade artists.
  • He was prolific Violin, Viola, Khanjira, Veena and Mrudangam player.
  • He composed music for the first Sanskrit film Adi Sankarar (1983).
  • He is the only Indian musician who has won National Awards for classical music, music direction as well as film playback singing.

  • He was awarded honorary doctorates, has performed more than 25,000 concerts worldwide and has more than 400 compositions in Telugu, Sanskrit, Kannada and Tamil.
